Cultivating Khushu

In a world full of distractions, our hearts often long for stillness. One of the most powerful places to find that stillness is in salah, through a state called khushu, deep humility and presence before Allah.

Khushu isn’t just about standing still; it’s about the heart being fully aware of who you are standing in front of. It means your mind isn’t racing through to-do lists, and your body isn’t rushing the motions. Instead, you’re fully present, connected, and in awe.

  • How can we build khushu?
Prepare your heart before prayer. Pause, make wudu with intention, and remind yourself of who you’re meeting.
  • Understand what you recite. Learn the meanings of the words in salah so your heart can follow your tongue.
  • Slow down. Take your time in each position. Let your soul catch up with your body.
  • Limit distractions. Pray in a quiet, clean space, away from your phone and noise.

Abu Darda reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The first thing to be taken from this nation will be humble reverence, until you will not see anyone in it with reverence.”

Let’s not let khushu disappear from our lives. Start small. One prayer. One sujood. One moment of presence. It can transform your connection with Allah, and with yourself. Don't wait, start your journey today with our digital guide and journal "Improving my Salah."

Why IlmCollection?

Seeking knowledge is one of the most beautiful and essential values in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him said, “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim” (Sunan Ibn Majah).

Knowledge lights the path to faith, action, and understanding, and it is through ‘ilm that we grow closer to Allah and live with purpose. At IlmCollection, we believe that learning should be intentional, accessible, and preserved. That’s why we create journals and planners designed to help you collect, reflect on, and apply the knowledge you gain on your journey.
